{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=D70EDFDB-C7E7-4D50-8BE9-EEC15625BE6A", "Thune: Schumer Celebrates the Government Shutdown While Families Suffer", "2025-10-15", "2025", "2025-10", "Republican", "Senate", "SD", "John Thune", "T000250", "www.thune.senate.gov", "thune", "https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases", "scraper", "Clickhereto watch the video.\n\nWASHINGTON \u2014 U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today spoke at a press conference with Senate Republican leadership:\n\nThune\u2019s remarks below (as delivered):\n\n\u201cWell, good afternoon.\n\n\u201cI think the American people are wondering when the Senate Democrats are going to end their temper tantrum and vote to reopen the government.\n\n\u201cEvery day that goes by, there are more and more Americans who are getting smaller and smaller paychecks, people who work for the federal government.\n\n\u201cNow, fortunately, the Trump administration has been able to make sure that our troops, our military, gets paid for a while longer, but there are limits to what they can do.\n\n\u201cAnd you\u2019re already seeing, and I\u2019m sure you\u2019re going to see more.\n\n\u201cThere have been thousands of flight delays across the country, and the longer this drags on the more of that you\u2019re going to see.\n\n\u201cSo what the Democrats need to do is to vote for a clean, short-term, nonpartisan funding resolution sitting at the desk right now in the Senate.\n\n\u201cI\u2019ve showed it to you before, 24 pages long.\n\n\u201cAll they have to do, we pick it up, we vote on it today, we send it to the president, the president signs it into law, the government reopens, and then we can be happy to have all the conversations the Democrats want to have about other issues.\n\n\u201cBut they will have a ninth opportunity today to vote to open the government.\n\n\u201cThey had an eighth opportunity yesterday.\n\n\u201cAnd they will have, if necessary, a 10th opportunity to reopen the government tomorrow.\n\n\u201cAll we need \u2013 all we need \u2013 are five courageous Democrats with a backbone who aren\u2019t afraid to buck their leadership, who are marching them right over a cliff.\n\n\u201cSo, we\u2019re willing to have, as I said, conversations about all the other issues that they want to talk about, but \u2026 that can\u2019t happen while they are holding the federal government, and all these federal employees, and our troops, and our air traffic controllers, and our TSA agents, and our Border Patrol officials hostage.\n\n\u201cOpen up the government.\n\n\u201cEvery day that this goes on, the problems are compounded for federal workers and for ordinary Americans.\n\n\u201cChuck Schumer may think that every day gets better for them politically, but I can tell you that is not the experience of the American people.\n\n\u201cThis needs to end.\n\n\u201cWe can end it today.\n\n\u201cThe bill is sitting at the desk.\n\n\u201cWe\u2019re going to get a chance to pick it up and pass it, open up the government, and get to work for the American people.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T19:32:54Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=D70EDFDB-C7E7-4D50-8BE9-EEC15625BE6A"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4819682110100985, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
