{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=E421C422-FADB-429D-86DC-C870AD92463D", "Thune: Democrats Delay Bipartisan Appropriations Bills", "2025-12-18", "2025", "2025-12", "Republican", "Senate", "SD", "John Thune", "T000250", "www.thune.senate.gov", "thune", "https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases", "scraper", "Clickhereto watch the video.\n\nWASHINGTON \u2014 U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor:\n\nThune\u2019s remarks below (as delivered):\n\n\u201cMr. President, when I became majority leader, I made it very clear that I was committed to funding the government through the regular-order consideration of appropriations bills \u2013 not through an omnibus or long-term CR often times written behind closed doors.\n\n\u201cThe regular-order process gives senators from both parties the fullest chance to make their voices \u2013 and the voices of their constituents \u2013 heard.\n\n\u201cWhich is why I am disappointed that we will not be moving to our second package of appropriations bills tonight.\n\n\u201cRepublicans were ready to go.\n\n\u201cBut unfortunately my Democrat colleagues are not there yet.\n\n\u201cHopefully they will get there.\n\n\u201cMr. President, Republicans have worked hard all year to get us back to taking up appropriations bills through regular order.\n\n\u201cWe had a positive start, with the Senate passing three appropriations bills before the August state work period \u2013 something that hadn\u2019t been done here since 2018.\n\n\u201cBut then we had a setback when Democrats decided to shut the government down for six weeks.\n\n\u201cThat, Mr. President, was disappointing.\n\n\u201cBut I want this body to know that I remain as committed as ever to funding the government through the regular-order process.\n\n\u201cAnd when we come back after the holidays, we are going to redouble our efforts to get this government funded and prevent any repeat of the Democrats\u2019 shutdown.\n\n\u201cI hope, Mr. President, that my Democrat colleagues will join us.\n\n\u201cSpeaking to that effect, and I will take them at face value.\n\n\u201cAnd I hope that we can work together to fund the government in the way it should be funded, through regular order and the appropriations process.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T20:09:11Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=E421C422-FADB-429D-86DC-C870AD92463D"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7746550254523754, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
