{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.tillis.senate.gov/2024/7/tillis-colleagues-introduce-bill-to-clamp-down-on-unemployment-insurance-fraud", "Tillis, Colleagues Introduce Bill to Clamp Down on Unemployment Insurance Fraud", "2024-07-18", "2024", "2024-07", "Republican", "Senate", "NC", "Thom Tillis", "T000476", "www.tillis.senate.gov", "tillis", "https://www.tillis.senate.gov/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 Senator Thom Tillis and 10 of his Senate colleagues recently introduced the bipartisan Unemployment Insurance Integrity and Accessibility Act, legislation that would make critical improvements to the nation\u2019s unemployment insurance system.\n\n\u201cCOVID-19 exposed vulnerabilities in our unemployment insurance system that must be addressed,\u201d said Senator Tillis. \u201cThis commonsense legislation protects taxpayer dollars by stopping fraud in our unemployment insurance system while ensuring it is available for those who need it.\u201d\n\nBackground:\n\nSpecifically, the Unemployment Insurance and Integrity Accessibility Act:\n\nExtends the federal statute of limitations for pandemic unemployment insurance fraud to 10 years (from 5 years under current law).\n\nAllows states to waive overpayments of pandemic unemployment insurance that have not been recovered as of date of enactment in non-fraud cases where repayment would be contrary to equity and good conscience.
