{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.tillis.senate.gov/2024/7/tillis-colleagues-introduce-bill-to-deport-non-citizens-convicted-of-crimes-while-protesting", "Tillis, Colleagues Introduce Bill to Deport Non-Citizens Convicted of Crimes While Protesting", "2024-07-29", "2024", "2024-07", "Republican", "Senate", "NC", "Thom Tillis", "T000476", "www.tillis.senate.gov", "tillis", "https://www.tillis.senate.gov/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 Senator Thom Tillis and his colleagues recently introduced the No Visas for Violent Criminals Act, legislation that would terminate any visa and require deportation within 60 days of any non-citizen convicted of a criminal offense during a protest.\n\n\u201cThe United States should have a zero-tolerance policy for non-citizens who intentionally break the law during violent protests,\u201d said Senator Tillis. \u201cThis legislation makes clear that simply having a green card doesn\u2019t give anyone the right to engage in violent demonstrations that break our laws.\u201d\n\nBackground:\n\nThe No Visas for Violent Criminals Act would immediately terminate any visa and require deportation within 60 days of any non-citizen convicted of:\n\nAny offense involving the obstruction of highways, roads, bridges, or tunnels.\n\nAny offense related to the individual\u2019s conduct at and during the course of a protest that takes place at an institution of higher education or religious institution in the United States.\n\nAny offense involving the defacement or destruction of federal property (including but not limited to monuments and memorials).
