SFABs are specialized units whose core mission is to conduct advise-and-assist operations with allies and partners.\u00a0\r\nThe Army stated the decision to station the second SFAB at Fort Bragg was based on strategic considerations including projected time to activate and train an SFAB, presence of senior grade personnel to man the unit, and required facility costs.\u00a0\r\n\u201cFort Bragg is the tip of the spear for the U.S. military and continues to be one of the most important military installations in the world,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Thom Tillis.\u00a0\u201cThe Army\u2019s decision to place the second Security Force Assistance Brigade at Ft. Bragg is a testament of its role in protecting our nation and its allies, and I\u2019m proud that 800 senior officers will join the ranks of the brave men and women already stationed there.\u201d\r\n\u201cI\u2019m pleased the U.S. Army has chosen Fort Bragg as the home of the second of six new Security Force Assistance Brigades,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Richard Burr.\u00a0\u201cThe installation has the existing resources and expertise to facilitate the Brigade\u2019s future success in its mission. North Carolina is home to over a million active duty service members and veterans. Some of the best and bravest serve our country at Fort Bragg, and we're proud they call North Carolina home.\u201d\r\nBackground:\r\nSFABs are designed on the brigade combat team (BCT) model and consist of approximately 800 senior and noncommissioned officers who have proven expertise in training and advising foreign security forces.\u00a0 Soldiers in the SFAB are screened based on qualifications and experience. The unit will receive the best, most advanced military equipment available. SFAB soldiers receive special training through the Military Advisor Training Academy to include language, foreign weapons and the Joint Fires Observer course.\u00a0 Commanders and leaders in the SFAB will have previously commanded and led similar BCT units at the same echelon. Enlisted advisors will hold the rank of sergeant and above.
