Markey (D-Mass.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Jeff Merkley (Ore.) today introduced legislation to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to Glen A. Doherty and Tyrone Woods in recognition of their contributions to the nation. Doherty and Woods, both former combat-decorated Navy SEALS, were killed in the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya in September 2012. Doherty was a native of Winchester, Massachusetts and Woods a native of Portland, Oregon.\n\u00a0\n\u201cGlen Doherty and Tyrone Woods\u2019 commitment to country and distinguished service made them American heroes and examples of excellence that will endure forever,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Markey.\u00a0\u201cI am proud to introduce bipartisan legislation to honor their courage with the Congressional Gold Medal. These warriors made the ultimate sacrifice, and their memories will live on as an inspiration to all for their bravery and commitment to our nation.\u201d\n\u00a0\n\u201cGlen Doherty and Tyrone Woods selflessly gave their lives in the service of our country, and we should honor their sacrifice,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Warren.\u00a0\u201cAs former Navy SEALs, Glen and Tyrone demonstrated incredible courage throughout their careers. During combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and while protecting our diplomats abroad, their brave actions helped keep Americans safe.
