U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., the highest-ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in response:\n\n\u201cToday is a great day for American shipbuilding and our Navy\u2019s ability to deter China in the years ahead,\u201d Senator Wicker said. \u201cAs I have long noted \u2013 including in my recent \u201cPeace Through Strength\u201d report \u2013 the multi-ship buy of warships is a cost-effective way to provide stability for the industrial base on key shipbuilding programs.
