{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.wicker.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ContentRecord_id=002637E3-9A62-4968-855C-AFE1A67F2BD8", "Wicker, Cochran, Palazzo Pleased with Disaster Assistance Approval for Mississippi", "2017-11-27", "2017", "2017-11", "Republican", "House", "MS", "Roger Wicker", "W000437", "www.wicker.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "WASHINGTON \u2013 U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Thad Cochran, R-Miss., and Congressman Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., today welcomed President Trump\u2019s approval of Governor Phil Bryant\u2019s request for federal disaster assistance related to damages caused by Hurricane Nate early last month.\r\nPresident Trump granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Mississippi late Nov. 22.\u00a0 Cochran, Wicker, and Palazzo endorsed the request in a Nov. 2 letter to President Trump.\u00a0 Bryant declared a state of emergency on Oct. 6 before Hurricane Nate made landfall on the Mississippi coast on Oct. 8.\r\n\u201cFollowing severe weather events across the State of Mississippi on October 8, 2017, we request your full consideration of Governor Phil Bryant\u2019s request for an expedited major disaster declaration,\u201d said the lawmakers\u2019 letter, which also outlined activities in the state prior to and following the storm.\r\n\u201cThe State of Mississippi is prepared to expend funds in response to this disaster, but federal assistance is necessary due to the severity and magnitude of the disaster,\u201d the letter stated.\r\nThe presidential declaration will allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide Public Assistance funding for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities in George, Greene, Harrison, and Jackson counties.\u00a0 It will also permit Hazard Mitigation grant assistance statewide to prevent or reduce long term risk to life and property from natural hazards).\r\nIn his Oct. 27 request, Bryant cited damage caused by Hurricane Nate, which had high winds in excess of 85 miles per hour and an 11-foot storm surge.\u00a0 Severe storm conditions and tornadoes associated with the hurricane resulted in damaged homes and businesses, significant power outages, and widespread debris.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.wicker.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ContentRecord_id=002637E3-9A62-4968-855C-AFE1A67F2BD8"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.3414430432021618, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
