The department announced it would not file federal charges against the officials despite damning findings from the department\u2019s Office of Inspector General (OIG) and additional details referenced by Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Lisa Monaco at a Judiciary Committee hearing in September of 2021.\n\nIn a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, the senators write:\n\n\u201cThis declination is all the more inexplicable in light of DAG Monaco\u2019s representation to the Committee on October 5, 2021, that \u2018new information\u2019 had come to light and which was under review by the Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division.
