The Stop Insider Trading Act also requires public notice seven days before a lawmaker, spouse, or dependent child may sell a stock.\n\n\u201cWhen Hoosiers sent me to Congress, I promised I\u2019d never use this seat to line my own pockets, and I\u2019ve kept that promise every day since. Today\u2019s vote is proof of that,\u201d said Congressman Yakym. \u201cThis bill is common sense: it restores trust in Congress and makes clear no lawmaker should ever profit from information they get on the job.\u201d\n\nThe Stop Insider Trading Act will:\n\nBan Members, their spouses, and their dependent children from purchasing a security issued by a publicly traded company.\n\nRequire Members of Congress to file a public notice at least seven days, but no more than 14 days, in advance of each intended sale with the Clerk of the House of Representatives.\n\nRequire the House Ethics Committee to issue a fee equal to $2,000 or 10% of the value of the covered investment \u2013 whichever is greater \u2013 plus the net gain realized from the sale, for violations of the law.\n\nRead the full bill here.", 1, "2026-07-23T07:31:02Z", "2026-07-23T07:32:26Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://yakym.house.gov/posts/yakym-votes-to-ban-congressional-stock-trading"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0015869047492743, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
