Justin Amash (R-Mich.) received the \u201cTaxpayers\u2019 Friend Award\u201d from the National Taxpayers Union this week in recognition of the \u201cA\u201d grade he earned for his 2015 voting record. This is the fifth consecutive year Amash has received the organization\u2019s highest grade.\n\u201cEconomic freedom is essential to liberty,\u201d said Amash. \u201cOur national debt is an astounding $19.7 trillion, and our tax code is riddled with corporate welfare. Congress can promote competition, innovation, and prosperity by defending free markets and fighting cronyism.\u201d\nThe National Taxpayers Union awards an \u201cA\u201d grade to U.S. representatives and senators who consistently support lower taxes, less spending, and fiscally responsible governance.
