The resolution, which the United States abstained from voting on or vetoing, was approved by the Security Council..\u00a0 It has been the previous practice of the United States to stand allied with Israel at the United Nations.\n\u00a0\nBarletta issued the following statement:\n\u00a0\n\u201cThis is a particularly shameful move by President Obama \u2013 especially with only a month left in his administration \u2013 to turn his back on Israel. It is the long-standing practice of the United States to side with our only democratic ally in the Middle East, but Obama has broken with that tradition. The resolution he declined to veto serves only to isolate Israel from its neighbors, and the inaction by the Obama administration sends the clear message that America cannot be counted on as a faithful ally.\u00a0 Even worse, it is easy to perceive this as a parting shot at Israel by Obama, considering that the U.S. vetoed and voted against similar resolutions in 2011 and 2014. Today's inaction is a severe blow to the peace process.\u00a0 There is help on the way, however.
