Cicilline (RI-1) issued the statement below following his election last night to lead the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) as a co-chair in the 115th Congress:
“I am extraordinarily grateful for the support I received from my colleagues in this election. I entered this race for a simple reason – the Democratic Party needs to do a better job of listening and communicating our positions on the issues important to hard-working middle class families across this country. We need to make sure that every working man and woman in America – no matter who they are or where they live – knows that we are fighting for them.”
“Rhode Island was hit harder than most states by the Great Recession. Since the election, I’ve spoken with many Rhode Islanders who voted for me but not for our presidential candidates. I see the anxiety they have about the direction our country is headed – it’s the same anxiety that millions of Americans are feeling right now. If this election teaches us anything at all, it’s that Democrats have to do a better job of communicating about our work to address the urgent needs of working class families and speaking to their real concerns about their economic future.”
“As Donald Trump prepares to enter office, it’s more important than ever that we clearly and forcefully develop and articulate our strategies to create good-paying jobs, make college more affordable, end gun violence, ensure retirement security, and at the same time defend our American values. Millions of Americans – including the disabled, women, LGBT and minority communities – are also feeling anxious and vulnerable right now. It’s critical that we stand on their side, fight to protect their rights, and preserve the values of equality and inclusion that have always defined us as Americans.”
“I look forward to working with my fellow co-chairs, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Leader Pelosi, and our entire Democratic Leadership team as we begin this important work.”", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
http://cicilline.house.gov/press-release/cicilline-elected-dpcc-co-chair
