The massive transformation that is underway is having a huge economic impact on our region, keeping and creating jobs in Missouri\u2019s Fifth District, and it highlights the government\u2019s focus on modernization, innovation, cost savings, infrastructure investment, and environmental efficiency. \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhat kind of economic impact? \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHoneywell employs approximately 2,500 people in Kansas City.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tKeeping the campus in Kansas City means those high-skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs stay here.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe relocation has revitalized the local construction industry by generating more than 1,000 new construction jobs.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe local economy has gotten a huge boost, including $1 million in tax revenue to the Grandview School District. \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEmployees of Honeywell and local media gather for the safe relocation celebration\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHoneywell is a prime contractor for the United States Department of Energy. The company manages and operates the Kansas City plant. The relocation is one of the largest industrial moves in the United States, and last week they celebrated 3.6 million hours of working safely during this move.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHow big is this move?\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tA wide range of equipment is being moved \u2013 tools weighing as little as 6 ounces to a milling machine weighing 87,000 pounds.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBy the completion of the move \u2013 3,000 truckloads will have transported thousands of pieces of equipment, including 30,000 crates.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStacked on top of each other \u2013 the crates would be 5 times the height of Mount Everest.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHoneywell officials congratulate the workforce on a job well done halfway through the relocation\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis new state-of-the-art facility means moving forward on the mission to keep our country safe and strong. Of course, Dr. Martin Luther King\u2019s \u201cI Have a Dream\u201d speech captured the hearts and souls of America, and is one that I find inspiring still to this day. We have come so far as a nation \u2013 yet there is still much work to do.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis year, as I marked the anniversary of the march, I also hoped it served as a reminder to all of us that the \u201cDream\u201d has not been fulfilled yet, and the battle for justice goes on.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tUnemployment continues to plague communities throughout Missouri\u2019s Fifth District, and our country. \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe black community still sees double the unemployment rates of the rest of the country.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tYouth unemployment is nearly six times higher.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tVoting Rights suffered a crucial blow with the Supreme Court\u2019s recently ruling on the Voting Rights Act.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNew laws are threatening voter protection.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFor all of us, we must continue our battles in these areas and others. Workers\u2019 Rights, Women\u2019s Rights, Immigration Reform, Environmental Justice, and making sure our children, and their children, will be able to afford a college education. \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe March on Washington is a call to action for all of us. He will be there to serve constituents in any and all ways possible. From attending meetings and asking for input from you, to helping with local issues and addressing federal assistance, Kyle\u2019s focus is communication with area residents. My goal in opening this office is to make sure I am serving the residents of Ray, Lafayette, and Saline Counties to the best of my ability. And I think having an office that is geographically close, with a staffer devoted to just those areas, is a positive step in meeting that objective.
