This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and will be used for a variety of programs and research projects.\n\u201cThis funding will be used to continue important work at St. Jude, one of the world\u2019s finest health care institutions,\u201d said Congressman Cohen.\u00a0\nToday\u2019s announcement includes funding for the following St. Jude projects:\n $445,000 in funding for the \u201cInnate Gut Epithelial Mechanisms of Immunity\u201d project, which aims to identify interacting genetic pathways in humans and their resident bacteria that work to regulate bacterial colonization and its downstream effects on human physiology.\n\t$379,851 in funding for the \u201cKir-Favorable Haploidentical Transplantation In Children\u201d project, which is focused on developing novel bone marrow transplantation for leukemia patients without a matched donor.\n\t$363,120 in funding for the \u201cE3-mediated Ubiquitin-like Protein Ligation\u201d project, which aims to gain fundamental understandings of a pathway called the ubiquitin cascade that regulates thousands of human proteins by changing their functions as needed.
