The funding announced today is from the National Science Foundation (NSF).\n\u201cThis funding underscores the important role that University of Memphis scholars play in areas of national importance including science and education,\u201d said Congressman Cohen. \u201cIt will also help the University of Memphis prepare 100 more young people each year for good-paying, 21st century jobs in the high-paying STEM fields that will keep our economy moving in the right direction.\u201d\nThe following grant awards are included under today\u2019s announcement:\n U of M\u2019s Alfred Hall was awarded $1,342,970 in grant funding from the NSF\u2019s Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings to establish the Memphis Virtual STEM Academy at East High School. The Academy aims to help 100 Memphis high school students each year understand pre-engineering concepts and principles as well as develop an interest in and motivation to pursue advanced careers in the STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.\n  U of M\u2019s Robert Kozma was awarded $428,744 in grant funding from the NSF\u2019s Division of Mathematical Sciences to help improve mankind\u2019s understanding of cognitive strategic change, or the ability of the brain to modify actions and action planning while maintaining an overarching goal.
