Jim Cooper (TN-05) today announced plans to distribute tickets to the 2017 presidential inauguration to interested residents of Tennessee\u2019s 5th Congressional District.\n\tInauguration Day is Jan. 20. All tickets are \u201cstanding\u201d only. Guests will be standing outdoors for many hours \u2013 possibly in the rain or snow \u2013 on what is typically a cold January morning.\n\tTickets will be distributed over the next few weeks, following an electronic lottery process. All requests must be submitted online at\u00a0cooper.house.gov/inaugurationtickets, and no requests will be accepted over the phone.\n\tRequests will be accepted for residents of Cheatham, Davidson and Dickson counties. There is a limit of two (2) tickets per household. Tickets are not transferable.\n\tCooper\u2019s office outlined the following steps that interested residents should follow:\n\t Submit your request online at \u200bcooper.house.gov/inaugurationtickets\u200b\u00a0anytime between Monday, Dec. 5 at 9:00 a.m. CST and Friday, Dec. 9 at 5:00 p.m. CST. (A dedicated form will be available on Cooper\u2019s website starting Monday morning.)\n\t\tOn Monday, Dec. 12, Cooper\u2019s office will hold a lottery drawing, and winners will be notified via email. Only those who win tickets will receive an email. The deadline to confirm acceptance \u2013 again, via email response to Cooper\u2019s office \u2013 is Friday, Dec. 16 at 5:00 p.m. CST. No phone confirmations will be accepted.\n\t\tFor any tickets that are not electronically claimed by the Dec. 16 deadline, a second lottery drawing will be held on Monday, Dec. 19. New winners will be informed later that day. They will need to confirm by email within 24 hours.\n\t\tTickets must be picked up in person with photo ID at 1536 Longworth House Office Building in Washington, DC, on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 1:00 p.m. EST until 6:00 p.m. EST. Travelers should consider this timeframe. Tickets not picked up by 6:00 EST will be forfeited. \n\t The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) and Cooper\u2019s office also offered the following information for those considering entering the lottery:\n\t Gate opening times will be announced in January. Due to large crowds, everyone is encouraged to arrive early to ensure they can enter by the time the ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. EST. At recent inaugurations, thousands of guests were already in line for security by 7:00 or 8:00 a.m.\n\t\tTicket holders will be required to pass through security screening, so they should not bring a bag any larger than a small purse.\n\t\tDue to security and street closings, all are strongly encouraged to use Metro rail. There will be no public parking near the Capitol grounds. \n\t\tThe event is historically cold and wet. The crowds will be very large and guests will likely be outside in the cold for at least three hours. The elderly or those with limited mobility may find the conditions very difficult. Rain or snow boots are the recommended footwear.
