Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, began fasting in support of Fast for Families, a group of advocates who are fasting in front of the U.S. Capitol to call attention to Republican leaders\u2019 refusal to address comprehensive immigration reform. During the 24-hour fast, Crowley is abstaining from all food, drinking only water. Crowley took on the fast from his colleague Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and will pass the fast on to two of his colleagues on Friday.\n\u201cFor 30 days, brave advocates and faith leaders have fasted to demonstrate their commitment to fixing our nation\u2019s broken immigration system. These advocates have spoken with their voices and their hearts, and now they are speaking with every fiber of their body. I\u2019m proud to stand in solidarity with the fasters and I hope that their actions, and the outpouring of support they are receiving, will make my Republican colleagues realize that the call for immigration reform isn\u2019t going away,\u201d said Rep. Crowley. \nCrowley has been an outspoken advocate for comprehensive immigration reform. In October, Crowley, along with Reps. Luis Guti\u00e9rrez (D-IL), John Lewis (D-GA), other House colleagues, and 200 immigration reform advocates, was arrested by the U.S. Capitol Police in an act of civil disobedience calling on Congress to address immigration reform.\nCongressman Crowley is the eight-term representative from the 14th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx.
