Dennis A. Ross (FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, made the following statement after the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced the relocation of an aircraft fleet from MacDill Air Force Base to the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport: \r\n\u201cI am incredibly happy that NOAA decided to relocate the aircraft fleet from MacDill Air Force Base to the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport. This nine-plane fleet includes three hurricane hunters, which offer a vital service to the State of Florida by flying into tropical storms and measuring their intensity and forecasting their paths. Under the leadership of Airport Director Gene Conrad, Lakeland Linder has become a strong community partner throughout Lakeland and central Florida, and I am excited to see that partnership grow stronger and wider through NOAA\u2019s relocation plan.\u201d\r\nThe Lakeland Linder Regional Airport, centrally located on the I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando, operates with an 8,500-foot runway, precision approach, an Air Traffic Control Tower, Crash Fire Rescue, and heavy maintenance on the field. Due to its inland location, Lakeland Linder is protected from many hurricane force winds and already serves as a logistical staging area for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the State Emergency Response team.\r\nRep.
