Green, Vela and Gallego Support Oil and Gas Industry", "2013-11-20", "2013", "2013-11", "Democrat", "House", "TX", "Gene Green", "G000410", "green.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "(WASHINGTON, D.C.)\u00a0\u2013Today, Congressmen Gene Green (D-TX), Filemon Vela (D-TX), and Pete Gallego (D-TX) voted against H.R. 2728, which would require the Department of Interior, a federal agency, to\u00a0defer\u00a0to state regulations for all activities related to hydraulic fracturing used to produce oil and gas on federal land.\u00a0 Additionally, the Department of Interior would not be allowed to enforce any federal regulation on federal lands under the Department\u2019s jurisdiction.\u00a0\nRep. Gene Green stated, \u201cNatural gas development continues to be a vital economic driver in Texas.\u00a0 While I continue to be an advocate for expanded development of our domestic resources, I am also a firm believer in property rights.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cIn Texas, we would not want the federal government telling us what to do with state land, so I have a hard time supporting the idea of states telling the federal government what to do with their lands,\u201d said Green.\u00a0 \u201cWhile we have minimal federal lands in Texas, I know this an issue for many western states and would be happy to work with any of my colleagues to establish a working partnership between the federal government and the states to ensure that we can access, develop, and bring to market our domestic energy supplies.\u201d\n\"While\u00a0I\u00a0support this legislation's goal of preventing\u00a0unreasonable\u00a0bureaucratic\u00a0regulations\u00a0being placed on\u00a0hydraulic\u00a0fracturing,\u00a0I\u00a0am\u00a0troubled\u00a0by the fact that\u00a0federal law would be preempted by state law on federal lands,\" said Rep. Vela.\u00a0\u00a0\n\u201cThere is a right way and a wrong way to streamline the permitting process.\u00a0 However, this bill is the wrong way.\u00a0 It creates too many legal issues that will slow our system down.\u00a0 There is always reasonable middle ground - but this bill is not it,\u201d said Rep.
