Ra\u00fal M. Grijalva is hosting a public health forum in Tucson on Wed., May 29, to explain Affordable Care Act health care policy changes. The event, which will focus on opportunities for women and young people, is free and open to Southern Arizonans of all ages who RSVP with Adriana Perez at adriana.perez@mail.house.gov.\r\n\r\n\tGrijalva will speak at the event alongside local and national health experts. Attendees can ask questions, learn about opportunities to improve their health, and get information on finding affordable coverage.\r\n\r\n\tThanks to the Affordable Care Act, the following improvements \u2013 among many others \u2013 have already been made or will soon be made to the health insurance industry:\r\n\r\n\t\u2022 Women can now access a wide range of free preventive services they previously would have had to pay for, often out of pocket.\r\n\r\n\t\u2022 Young people can stay on their parents\u2019 health insurance until age 26.\r\n\r\n\t\u2022 Starting next year, no new insurance plans will be able to charge women higher premiums than men for the same coverage.\r\n\r\n\t\u2022 Also starting next year, no new insurance plans will be able to drop coverage for women who become pregnant. Many companies now consider pregnancy a \u201cpre-existing condition\u201d on which to base the decision to cancel coverage. Beginning in January 2014, no new health insurance policy can be denied on the basis of pregnancy or any other pre-existing condition.\r\n\r\n\tA full list of Affordable Care Act changes to the health industry, along with implementation dates and deadlines, is available at http://www.healthcare.gov/law/timeline/index.html.\r\n\r\n\tThe Tucson event is taking place in cooperation with El Rio Community Health Center.
