Amy\u2019s water color painting, which is untitled, depicts a marsh scene on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year.\n\u00a0\n\u201cI was impressed by Amy\u2019s ability to illustrate the beauty of the Eastern Shore through her painting, and I am proud to see her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for all to enjoy,\u201d said Congressman Harris. \u201cAll of this year\u2019s participants were impressive and I thank every student who submitted their work.\u00a0 An abundance of imagination, creativity, and talent was evident in each piece.\u201d\n\u00a0\n\u201cWhen I was given this assignment to paint anything that I wanted, I thought about the local scenery. My hometown in China is surrounded by mountains. When I moved to Centerville, Maryland I was instantly drawn to the water views,\u201d said Amy. \u201cEvery day on the way to school we cross a bridge that is surrounded by a marshy creek which inspired this painting.\u201d\n\u00a0\n\u201cAs an artist, Amy works tirelessly on the details until she is completely satisfied. She\u00a0often re-works an area several times until she is happy with it,\u201d said Ben Dize, Amy\u2019s art teacher at The Gunston School.\n\u00a0\nBoth the Congressman and a professional artist from his district, Ric Conn of the Queen Anne's Arts Council, judged the artwork and the winner was decided by a vote by constituents on Facebook. The Congressman and Mr. Conn, with the help of constituents throughout the district, also selected a 2nd- and 3rd-place winner, while the Congressman\u2019s Facebook followers voted for a \u201cSocial Media Fan Favorite\u201d winner. They are as follows: \u201cSpoon\u201d by Matthew Hoffstetter of The Gunston School (2nd place), and \u201cAngry Lewis\u201d by Sydney Kay of Queen Anne\u2019s County High School (3rd place). The \u201cSocial Media Fan Favorite\u201d winner was \u201cEye of Nefarious Book Cover\u201d by Dominique Ramsey of James M. Bennett High School.
