Randy Hultgren (R-14th District) told the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce Wednesday.\n\tHultgren is running for re-election against Democratic challenger Dennis Anderson.\n\tSpeaking to about 25 people at the Hilton hotel in Lisle, Hultgren singled out overregulation as particularly troubling to small business.\n\t\u201cNo one wants no regulation,\u201d he said. \u201cPeople want common sense regulation.\u201d\n\tHultgren said that he spent a good deal of time meeting with business owners in his district, and too often heard stories of government regulators that were in \u201can attack mode.\u201d\n\tHultgren also called for comprehensive federal tax reform, both for corporations and individuals. He stressed that the current U.S. corporate tax rate was among the highest in the world.\n\t\u201cWe shouldn\u2019t have a tax rate that hurts productivity,\u201d he said.\n\tHultgren warned that health care costs were an unknown that would add to the woes of small businesses in the near future. One audience member said that he found it hard to figure out the new rules regarding the federal health care laws, and Hultgren sympathized with him.\n\t\u201cWhat they created just won\u2019t stand,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m not convinced it was built to succeed.\u201d\n\tHultgren said that the legislation needs targeted reforms to make it more market-oriented and efficient.\n\tAs for next Tuesday\u2019s election, both on the state level and national races, Hultgren said things should be very interesting.\n\t\u201cI think it\u2019s going to be very close,\u201d he said. \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be a very long night.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://hultgren.house.gov//newsroom/in-the-news/hultgren-talks-business-with-naperville-chamber-of-commerce"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9567621164023876, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
