H.R. 2495, the American Super Computing Leadership Act, amends portions of the Department of Energy (DOE) High-End\u00a0Computing\u00a0Revitalization Act of 2004 to promote accelerated gains in \u201cexascale\u201d computing, computing whose speed approaches that of the human brain.\n\u201cExascale computing, exceeding the existing generation of super computing power by 10,000 percent, represents an exciting new world of science and American leadership. Unfortunately, America is falling behind as China boasts the world\u2019s fastest computer and is not slowing down,\u201d said Rep. Hultgren. \u201cMassive gains in computing power are necessary to meet our national security, scientific, and health care needs. Testing our nuclear stockpile as it ages will require more and more advanced computer simulations. Advanced modeling of the human brain gives scientists a better understanding of what causes Alzheimer\u2019s and cardiovascular disease, and what can treat it. Faster computing power speeds up drug development to get cures for our nation\u2019s top killers to the marketplace faster so Americans receive better health outcomes.\n\u201cThis legislation would ensure better access for the research community and industry. Thus, our manufacturers in Illinois who employ thousands of my constituents can improve the prototypes they put off their lines, producing a better product and more opportunities to expand their businesses and hire more workers.\n\u201cThe American Super Computing Leadership Act builds on the great work of my former colleague in Illinois Rep. Judy Biggert by encouraging DOE research to develop exascale computing systems. I am pleased the House voted to pass this important piece of legislation that will propel our country into the future.\u201d\nAmong other provisions, H.R. 2495:\n Instructs the Secretary of Energy to carry out a coordinated research program across the Department to develop exascale computing systems.\n\tEstablishes two or more National Lab-industry-university partnerships to conduct integrated research, development, and engineering of prototype exascale systems, while developing and deploying them for advanced scientific and engineering applications.\n\tRequires an integrated strategy and program management plan from the Department and regular status reports to Congress.\n ###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://hultgren.house.gov//newsroom/press-releases/house-passes-hultgren-high-performance-computing-bill-to-accelerate-health"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8347709663212299, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
