Over the past decade, the number of those going without food has increased significantly, and Rep. Hultgren emphasized the responsibility communities have to extend a helping hand to those in need. Rep. Hultgren wore an orange ribbon in support of the Go Orange hunger awareness effort.\n(Click picture to watch video)\nFollowing are Rep. Hultgren\u2019s prepared remarks:\nI rise today during Hunger Action Month to raise the alarm of food insecurity and hunger that afflict our fellow citizens.\nMany of us cannot imagine going to bed hungry and then waking up still hungry.\nBut this is the sad reality for far too many people.\nOf the nearly 200,000 of those who are food insecure in northern Illinois, 1 in 5 are children who lack adequate food and nutrition to grow up healthy.\nChicago suburban hunger grew by a stunning 99% over the past decade, notwithstanding the great efforts of hardworking volunteers at places like Northern Illinois Food Bank, Between Friends Food Pantry and Kendall County Food Bank.\nI have seen firsthand their service to our communities.\nThis September, let\u2019s redouble our volunteer efforts and use our resources to help our neighbors in need.\nColder months are up ahead when families feel the harsh brunt of food insecurity.\nIt takes the efforts of the community to care for our neighbors, as Jesus called us to do without judgment or stigma.\nWhatever we do for the least of these, we do for him.\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://hultgren.house.gov//newsroom/press-releases/watch-let-s-help-our-neighbors-in-need-this-hunger-action-month"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.416004030033946, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
