Rep. Hultgren was not serving in the House when Obamacare became law, but at the time, many Members of Congress and their constituents raised concerns that there were not adequate safeguards preventing taxpayer-funded abortion, a suspicion confirmed by the GAO report.\nRep. Hultgren today urged full transparency from the President and for the Senate to pass the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act which ensures the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal tax dollars from paying for abortions, is implemented across the federal government.\n(Click picture to watch video)\nFollowing are Rep. Hultgren\u2019s prepared remarks:\nI rise today disturbed by a report confirming that the Affordable Care Act provides for a massive expansion of abortion, funded by the taxpayer.\nThis week, the non-partisan Government Accountability Office revealed that 1,036 of the plans offered under Obamacare, and eligible for taxpayer subsidies, cover abortion on demand.\nAlthough the President promised in 2009 that \u201cno federal dollars will be used to fund abortions,\u201d the law\u2019s accounting gimmicks showed otherwise.\nThe late Honorable Henry Hyde worked hard to ensure that no American would be forced to pay for someone else\u2019s abortion.\nThat\u2019s why the House passed H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act.\nClearly, there\u2019s been a lack of \u201cfull disclosure\u201d by the administration and the insurance companies who have ignored the law, a law which failed to provide adequate safeguards for the taxpayer.\nMany Americans are thus unwittingly paying for a procedure which violates their most deeply held beliefs.\nIt\u2019s time the administration honored both the letter and spirit of the Hyde Amendment.\nIt\u2019s time for the Senate to pass H.R. 7 and ensure no American is forced to pay for abortion.\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://hultgren.house.gov//newsroom/press-releases/watch-obamacare-forces-taxpayers-to-cover-abortion-on-demand-gao-report"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.3986381236463785, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
