LaMalfa (R-CA) commented on President Obama\u2019s threats to issue an executive order granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.\n\u201cThis threat to unilaterally grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants is not only a massive abuse of power, but makes clear the unprecedented disconnect between this administration and our citizens,\u201d stated Rep. LaMalfa. \u201cI call upon the President to enforce our immigration laws, while working across the aisle with Congress towards an immigration system that secures our borders, respects the rule of law, stops violent criminals at the border, and prevents future illegal immigration.\u201d\nIn addition to addressing the President\u2019s proposal on the House floor, Rep. LaMalfa \u2013 along with more than fifty of his colleagues \u2013 wrote a letter urging Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY)\u00a0 to prohibit funding the implementation of any current or future executive action taken by the President on immigration without Congressional approval. The letter proactively included language blocking funding for work permits and green cards for illegal immigrants in upcoming government funding bills.\n\u201cWe have the means to stop the President\u2019s amnesty proposal but it is troubling that we even have to take such measures to ensure our President works with the legislative branch for long term solutions for immigration reform,\u201d added Rep.
