Billy Long is leading the effort to ensure those already hurt by the president\u2019s health care law are given a one year break from the law\u2019s individual mandate.\u00a0\r\n\r\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cPresident Obama promised if you like your current health care plan you could keep it, but many people are finding out this is simply not true.\u00a0 Across the country, hundreds of thousands of people are beginning to receive notices from their health insurance carriers that the coverage they currently enjoy will be terminated at the end of their current plan year because of the president\u2019s health care law. These same people will be penalized if they do not find new coverage.\u00a0 This is simply not fair, and my legislation would give individuals and families whose health insurance is being terminated a one-year break from the law\u2019s individual mandate.\u00a0 It is becoming clear that portions of the president\u2019s health care law are harming consumers nationwide.\u00a0 My legislation is about providing fairness for individuals and families, giving them the same break the Obama administration gave to big business,\u201d Long said.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\r\n\r\n\t\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Long\u2019s Fairness for Lost Coverage Act would simply grant a one-year exemption from the law\u2019s individual mandate to those whose individual or employer-sponsored coverage is being terminated.\r\n\r\n\t###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://long.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=49&itemid=467"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7212010677903891, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
