Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) issued the following statement after voting to support the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act:\r\nTodays passage of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act will not only help our economy grow but it will also help American taxpayers keep more of their hard-earned dollars. This legislation provides certainty to our nations small businesses by making a number of temporary provisions - such as the Research & Development credit and the section 179 expensing credit permanent. Now, businesses can plan appropriately for more than one year at a time, hire new workers, and invest in their communities. In addition, there are a number of reforms designed to better protect taxpayers from abuse by the Internal Revenue Service. With the passage of this legislation, it sets the stage for comprehensive tax reform to finally happen. Americans deserve a simpler and fairer tax code that is built for growth and this bill will help to make that possible.\r\nMore highlights of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act:\r\nR&D credit (permanent) \r\nCode section 179 expensing (permanent) \r\nState and local sales tax deduction (permanent) \r\nCharitable Tax Policies (permanent) \r\nBonus depreciation (five year extension) \r\nReduces the marriage penalty for certain credits (permanent) \r\nProvisions to crack down on fraud and abuse \r\nIRS employees prohibited from using personal email accounts for business \r\nIRS must inform taxpayers on status of investigations related to unauthorized use of private tax information \r\nRight to appeal adverse ruling of tax-exempt status \r\nIRS employees terminated taking official actions for political purposes", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://luetkemeyer.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=398660"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.125505194067955, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
