{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://morgangriffith.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=350501", "Griffith Statement on EPA\u2019s Continued War on Coal", "2013-09-20", "2013", "2013-09", "Republican", "House", "VA", "Morgan Griffith", "G000568", "morgangriffith.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) released a regulation to set greenhouse gas New Source Performance Standards for new coal-fired power plants:\r\n\u201cCurrent federal policies, let alone the regulation announced today, are devastating the economy of the Ninth District of Virginia.\u00a0 Each week, our region must absorb the devastating impacts of the Administration\u2019s war on coal.\u00a0 This assault, though targeting the coal industry, affects us all.\u00a0 It\u2019s not just those working in the coal fields that suffer \u2013 also suffering are industries that rely on coal mines.\r\n\u201cThis EPA regulation would require a new coal-fired power plant to use technologies that are not yet available in the marketplace.\u00a0 These regulations will fulfill one of the President\u2019s promises from his 2008 campaign, and send our electric rates sky-high.\u00a0 President Obama also admitted in 2008 that the cost of these policies will be passed on to consumers.\u00a0 We all know who those people are.\u00a0 Those \u2018consumers\u2019 are hard-working, middle-class Americans.\r\n\u201cI strongly urge President Obama and EPA Administrator McCarthy to declare a ceasefire in the war on coal and stop the regulatory assault on America\u2019s power sector, related businesses, and hard-working American people.\u201d\r\nGriffith questioned EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy at a September 18, 2013 Energy and Power Subcommittee hearing.\u00a0 Video can be seen here.\r\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://morgangriffith.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=350501"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4761066995561123, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
