The world revolved from night to day.\r\nThis time of year, I am often reminded of the great carol, I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. After suffering through years of great despair following the tragic loss of his wife and the injury of his son Charles in the War Between the States, American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wroteChristmas Bells, the basis for the carolI Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.\r\nThis carol tells of its narrator's despair that \"hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men,\" until on Christmas Day when he hears the ringing of the bells , which celebrate the power of faith and offer great hope.\r\nI heard the bells on Christmas day\r\nTheir old familiar carols play,\r\nAnd wild and sweet the words repeat\r\nOf peace on earth, good will to men.\r\nAnd thought how, as the day had come,\r\nThe belfries of all Christendom\r\nHad rolled along the unbroken song\r\nOf peace on earth, good will to men.\r\nTill ringing, singing on its way,\r\nThe world revolved from night to day,\r\nA voice, a chime, a chant sublime\r\nOf peace on earth, good-will to men.\r\nAnd in despair I bowed my head\r\nThere is no peace on earth, I said,\r\nFor hate is strong and mocks the song\r\nOf peace on earth, good well to men.\r\n\r\nThen pealed the bells more loud and deep:\r\n\"God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!\r\nThe Wrong shall fail,\r\nThe Right prevail,\r\nWith peace on earth, good will to men!\"\r\nThis meaningful, moving carol was the result of Longfellow having faced the blues, something many experience this time of year. If you know someone of suffering from the blues, consider reaching out to them. All can benefit from and appreciate the importance of community, caring, and giving.\r\nA hopeful message to remember: And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:10-11).\r\nFrom my family to yours, best wishes for a safe and merry Christmas.\r\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://morgangriffith.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=398506"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5867049805819988, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
