Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) highlighted legislative efforts to cut federal spending and to preserve services for her constituents on Friday in her weekly column.\r\nNoem cited the Farm Bill, which \u201cheavily impacts\u201d South Dakota\u2019s largest industry, and said it benefits consumers and agricultural producers alike.\r\n\u201cThe 2014 Farm Bill,\u00a0which I helped negotiate, cut $20 billion by making programs more accountable and efficient,\u201d Noem said. \u201cMeanwhile, the bill includes a safety net for producers that I\u2019m hopeful will help stabilize prices at the grocery store long term.\u00a0It also reestablished a meaningful livestock disaster program, increased pine beetle mitigation efforts and\u00a0continued\u00a0support for ag research at places like (South Dakota State University).\r\nNoem also outlined efforts to finalize a new fund to support the Lewis &amp; Clark Rural Water System program, which brings clean water to rural areas in South Dakota and elsewhere in the country.\r\n\u201cWhile local communities have paid their fair share for the project, the federal government has fallen through on its promises,\u201d Noem said. \u201cLast year, I helped establish\u00a0a new fund to get around the president\u2019s chronic underfunding of the program.\u00a0I made cuts elsewhere to ensure the numbers still worked and the new fund helped secure a total of $8.4 million for the project in (fiscal year) 2014.\u00a0This year, we were able to boost that new fund even more in the House.\u00a0Again, it was done without increasing overall spending.\u201d\r\nNoem also worked to combat human trafficking, to improve healthcare for veterans and to bring more accountability the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over the last year.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://noem.house.gov/index.cfm/in-the-news?ContentRecord_id=A6E8263D-41BB-45D3-A486-E88E885C71C8"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.1631101369857788, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
