Leaving what you earn in your wallet is essential to growing a healthy and sustainable economy.\r\nThe bipartisan Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act makes a number of temporary tax provisions permanent, delivering predictability, clarity and certainty for families and job creators. Included in the list of permanent extensions are:\r\n \r\nSection 179 business expensing limitations, which are important to many South Dakota farmers, ranchers and small businesses\r\nImprovements to 529 college savings plans\r\nDeduction for state and local sales tax\r\nDeduction for certain expenses of elementary and secondary school teachers\r\nDeductions for charitable giving\r\n \r\nThe legislation also temporarily extends the following through the end of 2016:\r\n \r\nBiodiesel tax credit\r\nDeduction for certain tuition and higher education expenses\r\nIndian employment tax credit\r\nMoratorium on Obamacares medical device tax (extended through 2017)\r\n \r\nFinally, this legislation includes a series of reforms designed to rein in the power of the IRS and better protect taxpayers, such as:\r\n \r\nFiring IRS employees who take politically motivated actions against taxpayers\r\nRequiring IRS employees to respect the Taxpayer Bill of Rights\r\nProhibit IRS employees from using personal email accounts for official business\r\n \r\nClick here for a section-by-section summary of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://noem.house.gov/index.cfm/press-releases?ContentRecord_id=9A4FF166-E446-43D0-B482-2164DE251920"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5103057958185673, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
