Nolan talks infrastructure on Iron Range", "2014-11-25", "2014", "2014-11", "Democrat", "House", "MN", "Rick Nolan", "N000127", "nolan.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Chisholm, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- Representative Rick Nolan (D-8) sat down with Iron Range leaders on Monday to talk with them about important issues facing the Iron Range, one of which is infrastructure.\n\"You know as a congressmen you can make an impact either through legislation or through working with the various agencies,\" said Rep. Nolan.\nBack after being re\u2013elected to the 8th district, Rep. Nolan is working with the Iron Range officials to address the pressing problem of infrastructure that is not only being felt in Minnesota, but nation wide.\n\"Listening to people talk about what has happened to our highway infrastructure whether it's bridges or the roads themselves all over the country and just how there isn't the money going into maintaining what used to be the best highway infrastructure in the world, which is now, I think, 15th or 16th,\" said newly elected St. Louis County Board Member, Tom Rukavina.\nWith several infrastructure projects in the works, such as the reconstruction of highway 169 and the relocation of Highway\u00a053\u00a0Nolan said he is optimistic these projects will help address the problems.\n\"I'm confident we are going to have a decision on the 169 reroute in the coming weeks. I'm very happy about the E\u20132 selection for highway 53,\" said Rep. Nolan.\nAnother problem being felt in St. Louis County is the steep price tag for these projects.\nLast week, the County board unveiled a\u00a0plan\u00a0that would raise the sales tax by half a percent.\nHowever, Commissioner Rukavina says he would like to see the taconite tax credit go to road repairs.\n\"I think that we deserve more of the taconite tax credit money in St. Louis County because six of the seven mines and six of the seven plants are here in St. Louis County.
