Rick Nolan today congratulated Lake Connections and the USDA Rural Utilities Service (RUS) for reaching an agreement to continue construction for a major rural broadband project in northern Minnesota. Nolan - who sits on the Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Rural Development and Credit - was instrumental in this negotiation by facilitating communication between the two parties until a compromise was reached.\n\u201cAs a Member of Congress, I always welcome the opportunity to assist in negotiations between federal agencies and local businesses,\u201d Nolan said. \u201cI commend the local officials involved for their persistence and dedication in seeing this project through.\u201d\nThis week, Lake Connections also learned that they will receive $3.5 million from the FCC Rural Broadband Experiment.\nIn 2010, Lake County received $66.5 million in funding from the Broadband Initiatives Program to make high-speed broadband accessible to all its residents through construct of a fiber-optic network. Lake County is investing $3.5 million in this project.\n\u00a0\u201cThis is wonderful news for our rural communities in the Lake County area,\u201d Nolan said. \u201cThe funding will enhance internet accessibility in the region and promote good-paying jobs by putting families and small businesses in the area on the same playing field as big city companies when it comes to accessing information.\u201d\nWith this agreement, residents of Lake County and eastern St. Louis County will now be able to purchase High-Speed Internet, Digital TV, and Voice services at competitive rates.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://nolan.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/rep-nolan-agreement-reached-for-lake-county-rural-broadband-project"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5044989995658398, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
