Bradlee, the Washington Post\u2019s most distinguished editor, and called him \u201cthe father of investigative journalism.\u201d\u00a0 Bradlee spent twenty-six years at the Washington Post, beginning in 1965, and saw the paper through such historic events as the Watergate scandal and the Pentagon Papers.\u00a0 Bradlee went on to win a Public Service award for the Watergate coverage.\u00a0 Norton commended his commitment to the First Amendment and to government accountability and transparency.\n\u201cAs editor of our hometown newspaper, Benjamin Bradlee defined an era of reporting that gave birth to investigative journalism as we now know it,\u201d Norton said.\u00a0 \u201cHe will be remembered for his fearless journalism, for building a team of pathbreaking journalists, and for giving them the freedom to do what seemed to be the impossible.\u00a0 Bradlee, his publisher Katharine Graham, and his reporters lived among the powerful in Washington, but were completely undaunted by them, including the President.\u00a0 Outside of the newsroom, Bradlee did not forget our community, raising millions of dollars for the District\u2019s Children\u2019s National Medical Center.\u00a0 Nearly one year ago, Bradlee was awarded by President Obama the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation\u2019s highest civilian honor, for his life\u2019s work.\u00a0 I send my condolences to his wife, Sally Quinn, to his entire family, and to the countless people who he inspired, mentored, and loved.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://norton.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/norton-mourns-loss-of-benjamin-bradlee-father-of-investigative"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8465750142931938, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
