{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://norton.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/norton-says-dc-is-closer-than-ever-to-getting-national-women-s-history", "Norton Says D.C. is Closer than Ever to Getting National Womens History Museum", "2014-12-05", "2014", "2014-12", "Democrat", "House", "DC", "Eleanor Norton", "N000147", "norton.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), an original cosponsor of the House-passed H.R. 863, the \u201cCommission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Women's History Museum Act of 2013,\u201d today said she was pleased that the final fiscal year 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) creates a commission to develop a report on a plan of action for the establishment and maintenance of a National Women's History Museum in the District of Columbia.\u00a0 Norton has tried for years to get a bill for a National Women\u2019s History Museum through the Economic Development Subcommittee and to the House floor.\u00a0 The House passed the bill this week, and the Senate is expected to pass it next week.\n\u201cIt is time to stop delay of a National Women\u2019s Museum in our nation\u2019s capital, particularly when the public seems eager to learn more about the impact of women in our society,\u201d Norton said.\u00a0 \u201cTo encourage and empower even more women to make contributions and to take on leadership roles, we must understand and appreciate the countless contributions they have already made to our nation\u2019s history.\u201d\nNorton, a senior member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, has been working with Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) \u2013 the sponsor of H.R. 863 \u2013 and other women in the House and Senate since 2009 to establish a National Women\u2019s History Museum. \u00a0Initially, they found land on the Mall that could have been designated for the museum, but it is no longer available.\u00a0 They also directly tried to get the museum established.\u00a0 However, just as the National Museum of African American History and Culture, currently under construction, required a study, Norton believes a study is also the best way to achieve a National Women\u2019s History Museum.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://norton.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/norton-says-dc-is-closer-than-ever-to-getting-national-women-s-history"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8849729783833027, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
