He also discussed the Cardiomyopathy Health Education, Awareness, Risk Assessment and Training in the Schools (HEARTS) Act, which Congressman Pallone reintroduced in February 2013.\n\u201cCardiomyopathy is a silent killer, and unfortunately it has struck right here in central New Jersey,\u201d said Congressman Pallone. \u201cRaising awareness is the first step and the HEARTS Act can help prevent these tragic deaths.\u201d\nCongressman Pallone was joined by Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan (D-NJ), Lisa Yue, founding executive director of the Children\u2019s Cardiomyopathy Foundation, which she and her husband established after losing two children to cardiomyopathy.\u00a0 Lisa Salberg, CEO and Founder of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association was also in attendance along with the Torok family, whose daughter, Anna, lives with dilated cardiomyopathy.\nSCA is the leading cause of death on school property.\u00a0 The HEARTS Act was introduced following the death of two young student athletes in Middlesex County.\u00a0 The Congressman attended a game honoring the two students in September 2010 in Edison called \u201cHelmets for Hearts.\u201d The event also helped spread the word about cardiomyopathy, while encouraging families to get their children tested. \u00a0\nThe bill would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to coordinate with the Centers for Disease Control, and national patient advocacy and health professional organizations to develop educational materials and resources on cardiomyopathy for public awareness and distribute materials to schools, teachers and parents.\u00a0 It also will encourage schools to be aware of and prepared for a cardiac emergency.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://pallone.house.gov/press-release/pallone-calls-attention-sudden-cardiac-arrest-children-and-young-adults"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8123430889099836, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
