{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://pallone.house.gov/press-release/pallone-expresses-support-completion-epa%E2%80%99s-cornell-dubilier-superfund-cleanup", "Pallone Expresses Support for Completion of EPAs Cornell-Dubilier Superfund Cleanup", "2014-10-01", "2014", "2014-10", "Democrat", "House", "NJ", "Frank Pallone", "P000034", "pallone.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "WASHINGTON, DC\u00a0\u2014Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) expressed his support for the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s (EPA) plan to complete the remediation of the Cornell-Dubilier Electronics Superfund site in South Plainfield, New Jersey.\u00a0 This comes in response to the EPA\u2019s proposed plan to cleanup a nine mile stretch of Bound Brook, which passes next to the former Cornell-Dubilier Electronics facility.\u00a0 Under this proposed plan, the EPA estimates that this fourth and final phase of the cleanup will cost $252 million. \u00a0\n\u201cI am pleased to see that we are moving forward with this important cleanup,\u201d said Congressman Pallone.\u00a0 \u201cThe release of this final plan confirms that we are now on the way to a comprehensive cleanup that will remove public health hazards from the area, which is incredibly important for South Plainfield and surrounding communities.\u201d\nCongressman Pallone has consistently held that polluters must be held responsible for cleaning up contaminated sites.\u00a0 Last year, he reintroduced the Superfund Polluter Pays Act of 2013, which would replenish the Superfund Trust Fund by reinstituting the taxes oil and gas companies paid between 1980 and 1996.\u00a0 The legislation reinstates through FY 2019 a 9.7 cents a barrel tax on petroleum, a tax on 42 chemicals and a corporate environmental income tax of .12 percent on taxable income in excess of $2 million.\u00a0 This would help ensure that the EPA has sufficient funds available for the costs of investigations and cleanups of these toxic sites.\n\u201cThe American taxpayer should not be paying for the mistakes of corporate polluters,\u201d Pallone added.\u00a0 \u201cReinstating the Superfund taxes would ensure that EPA has the funds it needs to properly clean up these toxic sites and protect public health, our communities, and the environment.\u201d\nThe EPA will hold a public meeting on October 21, 2014 to explain the proposed plan.\u00a0 The meeting will be held at the South Plainfield Senior Center, 90 Maple Avenue, South Plainfield, New Jersey.\u00a0 Public comments on the plan will also be accepted through November 14, 2014.\u00a0 The EPA\u2019s full plan can be found here.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://pallone.house.gov/press-release/pallone-expresses-support-completion-epa%E2%80%99s-cornell-dubilier-superfund-cleanup"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4224890619516373, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
