{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://pallone.house.gov/press-release/pallone-statement-nba-commissioner%E2%80%99s-call-legalize-and-regulate-sports-betting", "Pallone Statement on NBA Commissioners Call to Legalize and Regulate Sports Betting", "2014-11-14", "2014", "2014-11", "Democrat", "House", "NJ", "Frank Pallone", "P000034", "pallone.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, DC \u2014 Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) released the following statement today in response to a New York Times op-ed written by Adam Silver, Commissioner of the National Basketball Association, in which he calls for a federal solution to allow states to authorize betting on professional sports:\n\u201cI agree with Commissioner Silver that it is time to bring sports wagering out of the shadows and under controlled regulation.\u00a0 The citizens of New Jersey have spoken loud and clear\u2014they want the opportunity to share in the profits of professional sports betting.\u00a0 And this should be done in a legal way that\u2019s regulated by the government, rather than the status quo which allows it to be run by criminal enterprises.\u00a0 Legalized sports betting at New Jersey\u2019s racetracks and in Atlantic City will be good for tourism and local businesses and will bring much needed tax revenue to our state.\n\u201cSilver\u2019s comments represent one sports league finally coming to the realization that sports betting ought to be legal and occur in a regulated environment.\u00a0 While I believe the recent actions New Jersey has taken are legal, I agree with Silver that federal law must be changed so that individual states can actively regulate sports betting on their own.\u00a0\n\u201cI have worked hard in Congress to change federal sports betting law, and I will continue to fight to do so.\u00a0 States like New Jersey should be able to do what is best for them.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://pallone.house.gov/press-release/pallone-statement-nba-commissioner%E2%80%99s-call-legalize-and-regulate-sports-betting"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.698662992566824, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
