Officer Mathews, 47, was tragically struck last Friday while removing hazardous debris from Highway 12.\u00a0\r\n\r\n\r\n\t\u201cOur law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every single day in more ways than we can imagine to keep us safe,\u201d\u00a0Congressman Paulsen said in his remarks. \u201cOfficer Mathews lost his life in service to his community, and he will not be forgotten.\u201d\r\n\r\n\tOfficer Mathews served in law enforcement throughout the state of Minnesota for two decades in various capacities and was a nine-year-veteran of the Wayzata police force. While in Wayzata, he had been a firearms instructor, a field training officer, and a reserve coordinator. Officer Mathews leaves behind his wife, Shawn, and their seven-year-old son, Wyatt.
