{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://pittenger.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/pittenger-wolf-write-mccrory-about-fighting-hunger", "Pittenger, Wolf write McCrory about fighting hunger", "2013-11-20", "2013", "2013-11", "Republican", "House", "NC", "Robert Pittenger", "P000606", "pittenger.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\n\u00a0\nNovember 20, 2013\n\u00a0\n\u00a0\n CONGRESSMEN PITTENGER AND WOLF WRITE GOVERNOR McCRORY ABOUT FIGHTING HUNGER \n\u00a0\nWASHINGTON \u2013 America is the world\u2019s most prosperous nation, and none of our friends and neighbors should go hungry.\n\u00a0\nYet 49 million Americans, including 16 million children, do go hungry. \u00a0Officially termed \u201cfood insecure,\u201d they often don\u2019t know where their next meal will come from.\n\u00a0\nToday, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) and Congressman Frank Wolf (VA-10) sent a letter to Governor Pat McCrory outlining several ideas on how to combat hunger at no cost to taxpayers.\n\u00a0\n\u201cCongressman Wolf has led efforts to fight hunger for several years, and I wanted leaders in North Carolina to benefit from his experience,\u201d said Congressman Pittenger. \u00a0\u201cCommunity problems are best solved through community action, and this letter provides new ideas on how to involve more of the community in fighting hunger in North Carolina.\u201d\n\u00a0\nThe joint letter describes several successful initiatives that Congressman Wolf has been involved with in Virginia, highlights an innovative partnership between school cafeterias and food banks in Kansas City, and discusses the need for more public-private partnerships to combat hunger.\n\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u201cThere are so many ways we can combat the pervasive yet solvable hunger problem that exists all over the country,\u201d wrote Congressman Wolf. \u00a0In 2009, Congressman Wolf launched an annual federal employee food drive which has collected 15.2 million pounds of food donations to date.\n\u00a0\nThis fall, Congressman Pittenger partnered with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the Billy Graham Library, WCNC-TV, and WSOC 103.7 FM for a food drive which he hopes will become an annual, community-wide event.\n\u00a0\nA copy of Congressman Pittenger\u2019s letter to Governor McCrory is attached.\n\u00a0\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://pittenger.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/pittenger-wolf-write-mccrory-about-fighting-hunger"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.81697984226048, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
