{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://pittenger.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/pittenger-kilah-report-update", "Pittenger: Kilah Report update", "2014-12-16", "2014", "2014-12", "Republican", "House", "NC", "Robert Pittenger", "P000606", "pittenger.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\n\u00a0\n CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER ON KILAH REPORT:\u00a0A GOOD START, BUT MORE WORK TO DO \n\u00a0\nCHARLOTTE \u2013 Today, the United States Department of Justice provided Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) with a summary of their state-by-state report on child abuse laws and penalties, as required by the Kilah Davenport Child Protection Act.\u00a0 By law, the full report was originally due on November 20th. \u201cThe Department of Justice has made a good start, but there is more work to do, including more information on the possible range of punishment for an offender and whether or not each state has enhanced penalties for cases of severe child abuse. \u201cMy office has already provided feedback, and we expect the Justice Department to work quickly on completing this report, which is already a month overdue. \u201cRight now, we are focused on helping the Justice Department produce an easy-to-understand report that enables grassroots activists and state legislators to identify and address outdated, lenient, or unworkable child abuse laws before another family suffers a tragedy. \u201cPlease join me in praying for the Davenport family as they celebrate their first Christmas without Kilah.\u00a0 \u201cThank you to the Davenports for your tireless efforts to bring good out of great loss.\u201d The Kilah Davenport Child Protection Act, which was written and introduced by Congressman Pittenger, was signed into law by President Obama on May 20th.\u00a0 The law directed the U.S. Attorney General to issue a state-by-state report on child abuse prevention laws within six months, with a particular focus on penalties for cases of severe child abuse.\u00a0 The goal is to highlight deficient laws and provide states with the opportunity to fix those laws before another tragedy occurs.\u00a0\n\u00a0\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://pittenger.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/pittenger-kilah-report-update"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7109090220183134, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
