{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://pittenger.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/pittenger-today-we-remember-sweet-kilah", "Pittenger:  Today we remember sweet Kilah", "2014-09-29", "2014", "2014-09", "Republican", "House", "NC", "Robert Pittenger", "P000606", "pittenger.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\n\u00a0\n CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER ON KILAH DAVENPORT:\u00a0INDICTMENT IS GOOD, BUT PREFER SHE WAS STILL WITH US \n\u00a0\nCHARLOTTE \u2013 Today, Joshua Houser was indicted in the death of Kilah Davenport and will now face second degree murder charges.\u00a0 Mr. Houser has already been convicted of felonious child abuse related to his beating of Kilah, which led to her death in March. \u201cToday we must again acknowledge this heinous act through the indictment of Joshua Houser, as we also pause to remember sweet Kilah, her suffering, and the unspeakable pain endured by the Davenport family,\u201d commented Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09).\u00a0 \u201cKilah should never have become the face of child abuse legislation, and no grand jury should ever have needed to take up such a grievous case.\u00a0 We are supportive that Joshua Houser will now be tried for Kilah\u2019s murder, but we\u2019d much prefer to see her smiling on the playground. \u201cOn behalf of the community, thank you to Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey and his department, Cabarrus County Sheriff Brad Riley, and Union County District Attorney Trey Robison for their tireless efforts in reviewing Kilah\u2019s case, her cause of death, and ultimately presenting evidence which led to today\u2019s indictment.\u201d On May 20th, President Obama signed the Kilah Davenport Child Protection Act into law.\u00a0 Written and introduced by Congressman Pittenger, the new law directs the U.S. Attorney General to issue a state-by-state report on child abuse prevention laws by the end of November, with a particular focus on penalties for cases of severe child abuse.\u00a0 The goal is to highlight deficient laws and provide states with the opportunity to fix those laws before another tragedy occurs.\n\u00a0\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://pittenger.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/pittenger-today-we-remember-sweet-kilah"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.1033179946243763, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
