Res. 59 \u2013 the bipartisan budget deal announced Tuesday evening.\u00a0 After its passage, U.S. Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-8) issued the following statement:\n\u201cI am proud to join my colleagues today in passing legislation that will give Americans the first government budget passed by both houses of Congress since 2009.\u00a0 While there is still much work to be done to truly get our financial situation in order, the bill is a positive step in the right direction.\u00a0\n\u201cThe agreement takes decisive action to reduce the deficit, eases the impact of the sequester, and places no new tax burdens on the American people.\u00a0 Instead of the indiscriminate, across-the-board cuts of the sequester, the bill eliminates waste, fraud, and abuse in current government programs.\u00a0 For example, the bill includes provisions from the Ways and Means Human Resources Subcommittee, which I chair, that would improve the collection of unemployment insurance overpayments and take steps to make sure that inmates aren\u2019t receiving government benefits while in jail.\u00a0\n\u201cAdditionally, it gives stability to the budget and appropriations process by removing the threat of a government shutdown on the horizon.\u00a0 This will allow us to move forward and address other critical issues such as the need for comprehensive tax reform and immigration reform, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on those issues.\u201d\nThe budget passed the House by a vote of 332 to 94 and will reduce the national deficit by $23 billion and provide $63 billion in sequester relief.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["http://reichert.house.gov/press-release/reichert-statement-budget-passage"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.003017881885171, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
