{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://reichert.house.gov/press-release/reichert-statement-peace-officers-memorial-day", "Reichert Statement on Peace Officers Memorial Day", "2013-05-15", "2013", "2013-05", "Republican", "House", "WA", "Dave Reichert", "R000578", "reichert.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, D.C - U.S. Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-08), the former Sheriff of King County who served 33 years in law enforcement, today released the following on the 51st observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day: \"Every day I think of my brothers and sisters in law enforcement.\u00a0 As a cop, we serve as a unit, as a family.\u00a0 Together we work to protect and defend our communities; together we risk our lives.\u00a0 When a life is lost it affects all of us,\u201d said Reichert.\u00a0 \u201cToday, as I had the honor to attend the National Law Enforcement Memorial Service, I remember especially those brothers and sisters who have made the ultimate sacrifice.\u00a0 It is our duty to remember and revere their work. This week I join with my law enforcement family in honoring the fallen Officers from Washington State: Sergeant William Armstrong, Trooper Tony Radulescu, and Ranger Margaret Anderson as well as all those who have lost their lives protecting their communities across the nation.\"\nThis Congress, Rep. Reichert has introduced or supported several pieces of legislation that would equip law enforcement officers with the tools they need to keep our communities safe.\u00a0 In January, he introduced bipartisan legislation that would reauthorize the Community Orienting Policing Services (COPS) grant program (H.R. 421).\u00a0 In February, he introduced with Rep. Adam Smith (WA-09) the Department of Justice (DOJ) Global Advisory Committee (GAC) Authorization Act (H.R. 817), and only yesterday, he supported the passage of the Blue Alert legislation of which he was a cosponsor.\u00a0 Rep. Reichert also works to support law enforcement through his position as Co-Chair of the Law Enforcement Caucus.\u00a0 BACKGROUND President John F. Kennedy designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day in 1962; the preceding week has become \"Police Week\u201d honoring all of those who have served in law enforcement.\u00a0 During this time, police officers from all over the nation come together in Washington, D.C., to pay tribute to their fellow officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.\u00a0\u00a0More than 3,000 people have been remembered.\u00a0 This year, among the 321 names to be inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, three from Washington State will be honored:\n-\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officer William W.
