Gun violence isn\u2019t an urban issue, it\u2019s an American public health epidemic,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I linked my Chicago families of victims of gun violence with Newtown families to work together on gun reform. Ending this epidemic requires all of us coming together to stop the bloodshed.\u201d\nKelly added that while she is proud of the work of the Chicago and Newtown families in promoting gun reform, they need help from Congress. She urged her colleagues to address gun reform next year. \u00a0\n\u201cAmerica can strike the right balance between protecting the Second Amendment and promoting public safety by keeping guns out of the wrong hands. And we must strike this balance. American lives hang in this balance,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cIt\u2019s time that Congress put saving American lives at the top of the national agenda by passing common sense gun legislation to make our country safer from gun violence.\u201d\nEarlier this year, Kelly released the 2014 Kelly Report on Gun Violence in America, the first-ever Congressional analysis of the nation\u2019s gun violence epidemic that offers a blueprint for ending the crisis.
