Today\u2019s announcement moves the Air Force one step closer to its final selection of two National Guard units to which the F-35 will be assigned. The final selection is expected in the Spring of 2017.  \n\t\u00a0  \n\tU.S. Representative Martha Roby (R-Ala.) has been promoting the 187th and Dannelly Field as an \u201cideal fit\u201d for the F-35 assignment.  \n\t\u00a0  \n\t\u201cAlabama\u2019s 187th Fighter Wing is an excellent candidate for the F-35 program, which is evident by its placement on this short list. The F-35\u2019s next-generation capabilities will give American aviators unquestioned air superiority in combat situations around the globe, and I have no doubt the men and women of the 187th will excel in their mission if selected for this program.  \n\t\u00a0  \n\t\u201cThis is exciting news for Montgomery and the State of Alabama.
