{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["http://rokita.house.gov/press-release/release-rokita-budget-legislation-makes-important-reforms-and-takes-obama-reid-future", "Release - Rokita: Budget Legislation Makes Important Reforms and Takes Obama-Reid Future ObamaCare Shutdown Off the Table", "2013-12-12", "2013", "2013-12", "Republican", "House", "IN", "Todd Rokita", "R000592", "rokita.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "December 12, 2013\nContact: Zach Zagar  \n\tPhone: (202) 225-5037  \n\tE-mail: zach.zagar@mail.house.gov\n\u00a0\nRokita: Budget Legislation Makes Important Reforms and Takes Obama-Reid Future ObamaCare Shutdown Off the Table\n\u00a0\nWashington, DC \u2013 Representative Todd Rokita released the following statement today after voting in favor of bipartisan budget legislation agreed to by Budget Chairmen Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) late Tuesday.\u00a0 The bill passed the House tonight with a strong bipartisan vote.\n\"This budget is a better deal than the current sequestration law because it makes spending reforms that cut more than sequester will and therefore will continue on after sequestration is scheduled to expire.\u00a0 The reforms, and therefore budget savings, start immediately and compound over time.\u00a0\nSince mandatory social entitlement spending is driving our debt, this budget is a step in the right direction, and a good springboard for the immense amount of reform work yet to be done.\u00a0\nFinally, this budget prevents President Obama and Harry Reid from staging another shutdown so they can distract from the failures of ObamaCare,\u201d Rokita said. \u00a0\u00a0\nRokita spoke on the House floor in support of the legislation moments before voting for its passage.\u00a0 You can view those remarks here.\n\u00a0\n\u00a0\nKey Spending Reforms in the Budget Agreement\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Eliminates unemployment benefits for criminals\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ends government payments to the deceased\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Requires dead-beat dads to pay their children\u2019s outstanding Medicaid bills\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Requires federal employees to contribute more to their retirement - in line with private sector standards\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Increases the contribution private companies must pay to guarantee their pension benefits under the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.\u00a0\nThese important reforms yield $28 billion in additional savings compared to current law.\u00a0 While this is a modest step forward, Rep.
