Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement after the President signed into law the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:\n\u201cWith the signature of this bill into law, we afford the democratic Jewish State of Israel a unique status as a major strategic partner, and reaffirm our support to enhance Israel\u2019s qualitative military edge. Israel faces relentless existential threats not only from Iran but also its proxy terror groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, who continuously have called for our closest ally in the Middle East to be erased from the face of the earth. I would like to thank my colleagues in both houses of Congress for their bipartisan support of Israel\u2019s right to defend itself and its citizens and look forward to ensuring that this law gets implemented immediately.\"\nNOTE: Chairman Ros-Lehtinen and Ranking Member Deutch are the authors of HR \u2013 938, the United States \u2013 Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2013. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives on March 5, 2014 by a vote of 410-1.
